1. Student visas. Sanitas International Students is normally the dedicated student product. Sanitas Residents or Sanitas Residents Platinum may be considered where the student policy is not suitable, subject to current eligibility rules.
2. Repatriation. A repatriation benefit is included on both plans. Companion-ticket terms and the circumstances in which repatriation applies are set out in the policy documentation — we will confirm the exact wording that will appear on your certificate before you apply.
3. Emergency healthcare abroad. This covers emergencies that arise while you are temporarily outside Spain, worldwide. It applies to care needed within 90 consecutive days from the start of a trip. Except in a life-threatening emergency, Sanitas must be contacted for prior authorisation before treatment is provided. It is not a substitute for travel insurance and it is not planned treatment abroad.
4. Freedom to use non-network doctors (reimbursement). This is a different benefit from emergency cover abroad. Sanitas Residents provides cover in Spain through the Sanitas network (cuadro médico). Residents Platinum is a mixed product: you may also use any doctor or clinic you choose, in Spain or anywhere in the world, pay them directly and claim the cost back — 90% of eligible costs up to €500,000 per insured per year, with sub-limits set out in the policy, including the pharmacy and dental limits shown above.
5. Optional reimbursement upgrade (Residents). Reimbursement is not part of the standard Sanitas Residents policy. It is a separate supplement that must be specifically contracted, it changes the premium, and its limits and conditions are set out separately. Ask us to quote it if you want that flexibility.
6. Dental structure. Both plans include dental cover through the Sanitas dental network, drawn from the same Insured Dental Benefits list — some services at no charge, others with a set excess. Residents calls this Sanitas Dental 21. Platinum includes that network cover and adds a reimbursement layer on top for dentists outside the network, or services carrying an excess inside it.
Joining age. Product eligibility and joining ages should be reconfirmed when applying.
