Sanitas Inicia is designed for small, medium and large companies that want to provide high-quality private health cover for their team. Available with or without co-payments, the plan gives all employees full access to the Sanitas network across Spain — with unlimited consultations, hospital care, dental cover and a preventative medicine programme included as standard.
The terms and conditions improve significantly according to the number of employees on the policy. Companies with 21–50 employees benefit from most waiting periods being waived, while companies with 51–350 employees have all waiting periods and pre-existing conditions removed entirely.

Sanitas Inicia is available to companies with between 5 and 350 employees. If your company has fewer than 5 employees, speak to us about individual or autónomo plans. Companies with more than 350 employees are typically better served by larger group schemes such as Sanitas Pymes Más Digital or Empresas Más Digital.
The maximum contractual age for new members joining the plan is 75 years. Once the policy is active there is no upper age limit — employees who joined before their 75th birthday can continue their cover beyond that age without interruption.
Sanitas Inicia applies standard waiting periods for certain services: 6 months for specialist consultations and diagnostic tests (including MRI and scans), 8 months for surgery and hospitalisation, and 8 months for childbirth. Urgent and emergency treatment, GP consultations, and accident-related care are covered from day one with no waiting period.
Yes. Any employee who has been continuously insured with another Spanish insurer (or a BUPA Group entity) for more than 12 months can have all standard waiting periods removed. You'll need to provide a copy of their previous policy certificate and proof of last premium payment. Note that childbirth waiting periods cannot be waived under any circumstances.
No — co-payments are entirely optional. You can choose the co-payment version of the plan, which reduces the monthly premium, or select the no-copay version for a slightly higher premium with no out-of-pocket costs per appointment. With the co-payment version, the first 6 services per calendar year are always free; co-payments only apply from the 7th service onwards in that year.
Employees can add their spouse or registered partner and dependent children up to the age of 25 (or without age limit if the child has a recognised disability). Family members are added at an additional premium and enjoy the same network access as the main policyholder. Some companies choose to subsidise family cover as part of their benefits package.
When an employee leaves, their cover under the group policy ends. However, Sanitas typically offers a conversion option — the departing employee can continue cover in their own name by switching to an individual plan without serving new waiting periods, provided continuity of cover is maintained.
