Eligibility
If you are a non-EU national married to, or in a registered/stable partnership with, an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen living in Spain, the tarjeta comunitaria is usually your route — not national family reunification. It generally allows you to live and work in Spain on the basis of the relationship.
Proof
Unmarried partners can qualify but face stricter proof requirements — take advice on what your office accepts.
Health cover
Whether your spouse needs private cover depends on the EU citizen’s status: if the EU citizen works or has public entitlement, the spouse may be covered through them; if self-sufficient, comprehensive private cover is usually expected. We arrange a Sanitas policy naming your spouse with a suitable certificate where it is needed. See the health insurance page.
Process
Residence and activity/self-sufficiency.
Address registration.
Marriage/partnership proof, apostilled and translated.
Through the EU citizen or private.
At the immigration office.
If approved.
Important information
Tell us about your spouse and the EU citizen's situation, and we will prepare suitable cover and a certificate where needed. We help with the health-insurance part of your application. Acceptance and exact policy terms depend on the insurer’s rules; visa decisions rest with the Spanish authorities.
English-speaking Sanitas specialists can help with the health-insurance part of your visa or residency application.
